Tailfin & Thrusters
As the most labor intensive of the initial build, the tailfin would be built in the same way surfboards are crafted. The center spine was cut from 3/4" birch plywood, then material was removed from the inner body to reduce weight while leaving cross ribs to support teardrop bulkheads. Pink foamboard fleshed out the cutouts and each side to the dimensions I determined in R&D. The lowest leading edge measured 4" and tapered to 2" at the top, while all tapered to 1" along the trailing edge. The footer sandwiched the plywood between two 2x6's for counterweight to the cantilever.
