Tiles & Detailing
As a distinctive characteristic of the space shuttle, the heat resistant tile pattern was hand painted over the surface of the ShuttleVan. By masking horizontally, then vertically, the 3,600 2" square tiles require roughly 40 hours to complete. This process has been repeated twice as a result of UV radiation fading. The spacewalker was a needed addition of folly.
